Growth of Almaty's hotel infrastructure
Almaty continues to confidently develop as one of the main tourist hubs of Kazakhstan. In this city, more and more investors are showing interest in the construction of hotels, which is associated with an increase in the number of tourists and an increase in demand for quality accommodation. As of the third quarter of 2024, there are 366 accommodation facilities in Almaty, including hotels and other types of hotels, with a total capacity of 11.4 thousand rooms. During the same period, the number of beds in the city exceeded 22.3 thousand, and the volume of services in the hotel sector increased by 27.6%, reaching 70.2 billion tenge.
One of the striking factors is the significant increase in tax revenues from the hotel business, which doubled from January to November 2024 and amounted to almost 10 billion tenge, indicating stable growth and trust in the industry.
In 2024, Almaty attracted private investment, thanks to which 35 new accommodation facilities opened in the city. Among them are 20 hotels, 4 glampings, 8 hostels and 3 guest houses. In total, this added 836 new rooms to the city's room stock, which significantly expanded the possibilities for receiving tourists. Moreover, in recent years, new accommodation formats such as glampings and hostels have become popular in Almaty. One of the modern trends is the opening of capsule hotels that offer compact and comfortable conditions for travelers.
Currently, 30 new hotel construction projects are at the implementation stage, with a total investment of 336.3 billion tenge. Of these, 7 facilities with 1,125 rooms are already under construction, with an estimated cost of 68.3 billion tenge, and another 23 projects with 3,290 rooms are at the design stage, with investments of 268 billion tenge.
The implementation of all these projects is planned until 2027. This will not only significantly expand the city's room stock, but also improve the quality of tourist services. The development of hotel infrastructure will strengthen Almaty’s position as an international hospitality center and will continue to attract tourists from all over the world.
